Classification of Networks BLOG LINK Roll of network connecting devices ***
Today’s blog is on the network connecting Devices used
in daily networking basis…
There are so many devices used to network connecting like
1) Repeaters
and Hubs.
2) Bridges.
3) Routers.
4) Gateways.
5) Switches.
Let’s see one-by-one explanation of network connecting
device
These all called network
connecting devices because they connects devices within a given network…
Sr. No. |
Device Name |
Role |
1. |
Repeater |
This layer regenerate original signal increases its availability. Operates
In the physical layer. |
2. |
Bridge |
These are the most active in the data link layer. They are very
useful in traffic management. They carry out it and bridges utilize the
address protocol. |
3. |
Routers |
Routers provides connection between two networks, It works as the traffic police. It is active
in Network layer. |
4. |
Gateways |
Gateways provides translation services between incompatible networks and
works in all the layers. |
5. |
Hub |
It connects stations in the physical layer topology. |
6. |
Switch |
It provides service like bridge, with great efficiency. |
1) Repeaters = repeater is the
connecting device which can operate only in the physical layer of OSI
model.
Repeater is
the device which regenerates the original signals and amplifies it to better communication
and data transmission.
It receives
signals and before it get corrupt, regenerate the original signal. It makes the
exact copy of incoming signal.
Advantages of Repeater: - 1. It makes
the signal strong.
2. They extend the network.
3. Reduces the noise.
4. Reduces effect of noise.
2) Hub = hub is the
multiport repeater. It is used to connect physical star topology. All networks
require a central system location to connect for receive various media/data
coming from various nodes as like location is called as HUB.
Types of hub
1. Passive
hub.
2. Active
hub.
3.
Intelligent hub.
3) Bridge =
bridge creates a single network between multiple networks to connect it
an aggregate connection.it can operate in a physical layer as well as data link
layer of the OSI model.
Types of
bridges:
1. Simple bridge.
2. Multipoint bridge.
3. Transparent
bridge.
4. Source
routing bridge.
4) Router =
router is the routing device which routes the network to the device on
that network (route) which has less traffic.it forwards the data packets in
between computer networks. It perform the route directing function.
I)
determines path to device.
ii) Packet
forward.
Types of
routers = 1. Wired router
2. wireless
router.
3. virtual
router
4.
broadband router.
5) Gateways
= gateways is the networking device that connects two
dissimilar networks together in one way. i.e. connect it .
6) Switches
= switch is the connecting device which connects the devices
together on any computer network by using packet switching to receive and sends
data to forward…this also provides bridging functionality …Classification of Networks BLOG LINK
